The Kissing Bug

by Daisy Hernández

The personal story Daisy Hernández shares in her new book “packs as much heart, tension, lyricism, and horror as some of the best contemporary fiction,” said Gabino Iglesias in The Boston Globe. Hernández was a girl when her family took in an aunt from Colombia who suffered from Chagas disease. The parasiteborne illness could be easily defeated, the author learned, if only it didn’t affect mostly poor brown people. She blends memoir, science, and history here, and “masterfully juggles every element.”
