Call for censure: House Republicans this week introduced a resolution to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for “defending terrorist organizations and inciting anti-Semitic attacks” after she appeared to liken U.S. and Israeli military activity to the actions of Hamas and the Taliban. After Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that he opposed having the International Criminal Court investigate alleged U.S. war crimes in Afghanistan and Israeli offenses in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, Omar’s office posted a video of her exchange with Blinken and a tweet: “We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.” Pressed by Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to disavow her comment, Omar said she was not making a “moral comparison.”
