■ Kim Kardashian agreed to pay $1.26 million to settle allegations that she promoted a crypto token on Instagram without disclosing that she’d been paid for doing so, the Securities and Exchange Commission said this week. Kardashian, whose 300 million–plus followers make her one of Instagram’s most popular users, last year posted, “Are you guys into crypto ???? This is not financial advice but my friends just told me about the Ethereum Max token!”The SEC said Kardashian’s inclusion of the hashtag “#AD” at the bottom of her post did not fulfill requirements that she disclose being paid $250,000 to tout the cryptocurrency. In addition to paying the fine, Kardashian, 41, agreed to not promote any digital assets for three years. Her attorney said the realityTV star settled the case to avoid a protracted dispute “so that she can move forward with her many different business pursuits.”
■ MacKenzie Scott filed for divorce last week from Dan Jewett, the science teacher she married 18 months ago after divorcing Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Scott, 52, met Jewett at the prestigious Seattle private school that her children with Bezos attended. In 2019, Scott split from the world’s richest man amid reports of his cheating with now-girlfriend Lauren Sànchez. Scott reportedly was awarded 4 percent of Amazon, worth roughly $36 billion at the time. She’s donated an estimated $12 billion since then, which still makes her the 40thrichest
person on Earth in Bloomberg rankings. Jewett did not contest the divorce, and any division of property is laid out in an agreement that is not public.
■ Trevor Noah is ending his tenure as host of Comedy Central’s Daily Show, seven years after the South African comedian took over from Jon Stewart. Noah, 38, reportedly made the decision himself, though his ratings have rarely lived up to Stewart’s. It’s unclear if Noah will be replaced or whether the show will continue. Like Stewart, Noah was known for mocking conservatives and railing about injustices. “I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days,” he said last week. Noah was recently spotted kissing pop star Dua Lipa, 27.
