Long live the bro comedy. A genre that’s been on life support since the Hangover trilogy ended 11 years ago gets a jolt from this pretty OK (aren’t they all?) tale of three friends who for decades have used the crises of a made-up friend named Ricky Stanicky as cover for clandestine brodowns. 2024 Academy Awards
The year of “Barbenheimer” carries into the late-arriving Oscars, with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer entering the night with a combined 21 nominations. There was no Best Director nod for Gerwig, which stirred controversy, but it’s otherwise a strong year for women, with Celine Song’s Past Lives and Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall joining Barbie in the Best Picture category.
