Hospital attacked: Fighting intensified in northern Gaza this week, as Israel attacked Gaza City’s largest medical complex for the second time. Saying Hamas had regrouped inside Al-Shifa Hospital, the Israeli Defense Forces stormed it with guns and tanks. Some 30,000 patients, doctors, and civilians were trapped inside. “They fire at anything moving,” Abdel-Hady Sayed, who like many Gazan civilians has been sheltering at the hospital for months, told Al Jazeera. The IDF said the raid killed a senior Hamas commander in the hospital area, as well as 20 other militants. Israel drew international condemnation after its first assault on Al-Shifa, in November, but it says the hospital conceals tunnels housing Hamas command centers.
