C.L. ‘Cliff’ Schumacher

C.L. “Cliff” Schumacher, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Bentonvill­e, Ark., after a short illness. He was born June 21, 1928, in Lyons, Kan.

He served on various community boards, the Great Bend (Kan.) City Council, and retired as president of Colonial Savings and Loan. He and his wife, Patsy, moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending winters at their desert home in Borrego Springs, Calif.

He was an avid golfer who shot five holes-inone, aviation enthusiast, and he had a fondness for animals. He was a graduate of Kansas State University, where he was a left-handed catcher on the K-State baseball team. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Schumacher; a brother, George Schumacher; and his first wife, LaVerna Huffman.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Schumacher, of Brookdale Assisted Living in Great Bend; two daughters, Lisa Bruns and husband Darrell of Bemidji, Minn., and Karla Schumacher of Wichita, Kan.; stepfamily, Cathy Catt and husband Ed of Wichita, Cliff Burt and wife Kathy, Doug Burt, and Charles Burt and wife Susie, all of Great Bend.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista with Father William Lowry of St. Theodore Episcopal Church.
