Librarians Unhushed

Tune in to library staff members Amanda and Bailley on the Bella Vista Public Library’s new podcast, Librarians Unhushed. These two gals are book lovin’, Diet Coke drinkin’ chatterboxes. On the podcast, they ramble on about books, movies, life in a library, and anything else that comes to mind! Podcast episodes will be published on the second Monday of the month. You’ll be able to find our podcast on our website and most podcast listening services.

Adult Speaker Series: The Merci Train

Laurel Lamb of the University of Arkansas Museum will be at the Bella Vista Public Library at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, for our first Adult Speaker Session of the year! Come by the library to learn all about the Merci Train. After World War II, Americans banded together to send over 700 boxcars of relief supplies to Europe. In return, French citizens sent gifts of gratitude to the United States in what were called Merci Trains. The boxcars included a variety of materials, from art to postcards to furniture. One such train for Arkansas arrived in North Little Rock on Feb. 13, 1949. Merci Train gifts were dispersed to various organizations, including the University of Arkansas Museum.

Fall Prevention

Every 18 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall. On Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. the Bella Vista Library, with the UAMS/ Schmieding Center, will present a free community education program on Fall Prevention. Learn how to make changes in your home and lifestyle to improve your safety and decrease your risk for falls.
