George Wingert Sr. May 26, 1931 - April 1, 2024

Wichita, Kansas - George Wingert Sr. went to his eternal home in heaven on April 1, 2024. George was born to Harold and Lois Wingert in Wellsville, KS, on May 26, 1931.

In 1970, George was elected to the Kansas House of Representa­tives for four terms. In 1979, George was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents, advancing higher education across Kansas. Given his love for politics, policies, and people, George worked as a lobbyist from 2005-2020, concluding a 50-year political career.

George is survived by his children Nancy Wingert of Overland Park, KS; George Wingert Jr. (Diane) of Kansas City, KS; Harold Wingert (Kathie) of Ottawa, KS; Fred Wingert (Brandy) of Stillwell, KS; and grandchild­ren Jackson, Claire, Isaac, Caroline, Laura, Baylor, and

Beckham. Also, he is survived by his brother, Dr. Bob Eugene Wingert (Kay) of Lenexa, KS; and local nieces and nephews including Teri Wingert of Mason, OH; Dr. Bart Wingert (Dr. Sue) of Wichita, KS; Daphne Adair (Randy) of Wylie, TX; and Wende Doyle (Jeff) of Wichita, KS. George was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Wingert, of Ottawa, KS, and brother Dr. Fred Dwight Wingert (Kathy) of Wichita, KS.

George was renowned for his positive outlook on life and remarkable story telling. He treasured supporting his children and grandchild­ren in their pursuits and activities. George was a lifelong Kansas State Wildcat fan.

George will be honored during a visitation on Friday, April 19, from 5-7 p.m. and a Celebratio­n of Life Service on Saturday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. both at Grace Community Fellowship, 501 S. Popular Street, Ottawa, KS, with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests we each bless someone in the days ahead to honor George given his love for people.
