Vote for HR1, let Democracy prevail

- Diane Wood Longmont

We are expelling 10 Russian intelligence diplomats for interference in the 2016 and 2020 elections. Putin and Russia worked to elect Trump to the presidency. This Russian interference was welcomed by Trump.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s 2016 campaign manager, fed voter information to Russian spy Kilimnik. We just learned that Kilimnik for warded this detailed information to the Kremlin showing that Trump’ campaign was colluding with Russia to defeat Hillar y Clinton. In my opinion, Manafor t is a traitor.

This Russian involvement was meant to persuade Americans to vote for Trump. Trump denied there was any Russian interference. After the 2020 vote, Trump told his followers that the election was fraudulent and that the election was stolen from him. To this day, Trump followers are still attempting to reverse the result of the election.

The people who assaulted the Capitol and congress on Jan. 6 were urged on by Trump. Several people died in the assault including a Capitol policeman. Many Capitol police were injured. We learned that Trump was glued to the TV watching his right-wing militias fighting for him. He failed to call in the National Guard for several critical hours.

This deliberate attack on our democracy was led by Donald Trump. Some elected officials still vocally support Trump’s “stop the steal” claim.

Congress is now debating the HR1 bill which will assure all American a fair chance to vote.

Republicans are fighting this HR1 bill. If they defeat this federal law, some states will create voting regulations that limit citizen’s ability to vote. I believe in ever y citizen’s right to vote. Your votes determine the direction of our nation.

Citizens, tell your representative and senators to vote for the HR1 bill. Let our Democracy prevail.
