Officers arrested a man in Berthoud believed to have shot someone in broad daylight in a busy section of Fort Collins a day earlier in an incident Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda called “a brazen attack.”

Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of Victor Jeremiah Corwin, 29, saying he was stopped in Berthoud in a stolen vehicle that had been tied to the Monday shooting.

A press release from Fort Collins Police Services did not list charges Cor win faces, instead saying that he was booked into the Larimer County Jail and that charges would come later from the 8th Judicial District Attorney.

At 10:41 a.m. on Monday, Fort Collins police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2400 block of South College Avenue and, when they arrived four minutes later, found a deceased person. Swoboda, in a press release, spoke of how the shooting happened in broad daylight, in a busy area of Fort Collins, with people around.

Police released a description of the shooter and a stolen vehicle in which he reportedly fled.

On Tuesday, a Brighton Police Department detective contacted Fort Collins police and reported being familiar with a

possible suspect.

Then, an off-duty Boulder County Sheriff's deputy noticed the stolen Honda CR-V parked at a business in Berthoud and called police.

Officers with Fort Collins Police Services and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office responded and were able to stop the vehicle, which had been previously been reported stolen from Lakewood, according to the press release

They arrested the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle — a man they identified as Cor win — and transported him to the Larimer County Jail.

Corwin is the same person that the Brighton Police Detective had earlier reported as a possible suspect based upon the description released, according to the press release.

Police did not release any additional information in the case or any details about the victim of the shooting, other than that the person died from a gunshot wound and is believed to have been homeless.

The victim's identity will be released later, after family members are notified.

Anyone with information regarding this incident who have not already spoken to police is asked to call Detective Dollie Knab at (970) 416 2195.
