CDPHE: 1 new county outbreak

- BY ANNIE MEHL STAFF WRITER

Two people involved in a COVID-19 outbreak determined this week were vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to testing positive for the virus.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, an outbreak at Camp Wojtyla in Erie was determined July 12 and involved six staff cases.

Camp Executive Director Annie Powell wrote in an email that four employees tested positive during the camp’s pre-programming testing July 6 and 7. The two other cases were determined July 12.

“These cases were immediately reported to our contact person at Boulder County (Public) Health, and all of these staff members went into isolation and their close contacts went into quarantine,” she wrote.

“Of these positive cases, two people were fully vaccinated. All of them have since recovered and returned to work, although some still report minor fatigue.”

Powell said she thinks the virus was spread by a camp attendee but cannot confirm that.

“We test all of our campers and staff at the start of each program, but it’s possible that the test had missed a case that had not yet become symptomatic,” she said.

According to the CDPHE, three of the older COVID-19 outbreaks reported in Boulder County are still ongoing. The state considers a COVID19 outbreak resolved when 28 days have passed with no new infections at the site.

Since last week, no new COVID-19 outbreaks have been resolved, according to the CDPHE.
