Boebert denies involvement in Jan .6 riot

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert this week denied any involvement in the Jan. 6 rally and riot at the U.S. Capitol following a report by Rolling Stone that some Republican members of Congress and their staffs — including Boebert’s office — communicated with event organizers.

“Let me be clear. I had no role in the planning or execution of any event that took place at the Capitol or anywhere in Washington, D.C., on January 6th,” Boebert said in a news release.

The first-term Republican congresswoman, representing Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, called Rolling Stone’s reporting “shoddy” and a method of attacking her.

“Once again, the media is acting as a messaging tool for the radical left,” she stated.

Rolling Stone reported that two planners of proTrump rallies in Washington, D.C., told the magazine they met with multiple members of Congress or their staffs ahead of Jan. 6, including Boebert, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-GA., Rep. Paul Gosar, R-ariz., Rep. Mo Brooks, R-ala., Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., Rep. Andy Biggs, R-ariz., and Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-texas.

“We would talk to Boebert’s team, Cawthorn’s team, Gosar’s team like back to back to back to back,” one of the sources told Rolling Stone. The magazine did not identify the planners.

The sources — who were reported to be communicating with congressional investigators as the House’s Jan. 6 riot investigation continues — were involved in planning the main rally at the White House Ellipse on Jan. 6 , but they denied any involvement in the Capitol riot, Rolling Stone reported.

Rolling Stone said it found evidence that both sources were in contact with Boebert on Jan. 6, but did not reveal that evidence as to preserve the sources’ anonymity since they’re part of the ongoing congerssional investigation.

Boebert was scheduled to speak on Jan. 6 at the Capitol as part of what was advertised as the “Wild Protest,” but ultimately did not.

“With the help of my staff, I accepted an invitation to speak at one event but ultimately I did not speak at any events on January 6th,” Boebert said in the news release.

Boebert said this was not the first false accusation made by “the left” about her involvement on Jan. 6, stating that she also was accused of giving a reconnaissance tour of the Capitol and of instigating and aiding the riot.

She refuted that, along with allegations her mother was involved in the Jan. 6 riot by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump, which disrupted the certification in Congress of President Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral victory.

The U.S. House Ethics Committee in June announced it would not investigate claims by Washington Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal that Boebert instigated and aided the Jan. 6 riot.

Jayapal had asked the Ethics Committee to investigate Boebert, noting that she had compared Jan. 6 to the American Revolution and alleging she had shared the location of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Twitter during the riot.

In her statement, Boebert dismissed the new Rolling Stone report as “grasping at straws.”
