We definitely need Costco in Longmont. We have Sam’s Club and two Walmarts. Let’s have a little diversity in the big box stores. I will continue to shop at Safeway and King Soopers and Walgreens, but there are things at Costco you can buy nowhere else. I really don’t like driving to Thornton or (Superior) weekly to get the things that I can only find at Costco. If the city council has made an error in their zoning, then I suggest they find a better location. However, don’t just drop the Costco on some whim because you guys don’t like it. … You can go to Walmart. I do not ever shop at Walmart.

This is in regard to the Costco lawsuit. I don’t think people are really concerned about having another big box store here in town. Their major concern, I believe, is the fact that our tax dollars are helping build it. What’s up with that? Why should we pay them? They should be paying us. Get it right.

Maybe that Longmont group should stop all the apartment buildings instead of worrying about Costco. We need Costco more than we need more apartment buildings.

Over the years, Longmont has taken away our major shopping outlets. Now instead of a shopping mall we have a large food court, and I tried to Thornton, Broomfield, Loveland and Boulder to spend my money and give them my tax dollars, while adding to the pollution. Please let Costco get built here soon. It will add jobs, give Longmont the over 3.5% sales tax that it would get — and that would certainly pay back any tax breaks — and let us shop locally. Our population is growing so fast we need more shopping.
