Neighbors to host three meetings today about CEMEX’S plans
A group of concerned residents who live near CEMEX’S cement plant and mining operation east of Lyons will host three informational meetings today concerning the company’s controversial extension plan.
On May 2, the global building materials company, CEMEX, applied to Boulder County for a special use permit to continue mining at the Dowe Flats property for an additional 15 years.
As part of its proposal, CEMEX would shutter its cement plant the same day its mining operation, should it be extended, would also conclude on Dec. 31, 2037.
Residents have expressed concerns about air pollution and CEMEX’S overall impacts on the environment.
Thursday’s informational meetings will occur online via Zoom at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
