BVSD adjusts spring break to CU
SVVSD keeps its 2022-23 school calendar as is
The Boulder Valley school board agreed this week to change the district’s spring break dates to align with the University of Colorado Boulder’s calendar.
Boulder Valley’s spring break next school year will move from the originally scheduled week of March 20 to a week later, from March 27 to 31.
Boulder Valley Superintendent Rob Anderson said at this week’s school board meeting that the district generally tries to match CU Boulder’s spring break week, with many parents working at the university.
But when the district last approved calendars, district officials said, information about the university’s dates wasn’t available.
Boulder Valley sets calendars every two years, with the 2022-23 calendar approved in September 2020.
District officials said the spring break discrepancy was only recently noticed. CU Boulder posted information about the discrepancy last month.
District officials said absences will be excused for students whose families already planned trips for that week, while more substitute teachers also may be needed to cover for teachers whose children attend neighboring districts with different spring break weeks.
They also promised increased calendar collaboration with CU Boulder and the St. Vrain Valley School District in future years.
St. Vrain’s spring break, set for the week of March 20, also is a week before CU Boulder’s break.
St. Vrain spokeswoman Kerri Mcdermid said the district’s calendar was set before the university released their schedule and won’t be adjusted.
“As many of our families have already made travel arrangements, and schools scheduled activities and trips for that week, we do not plan to change the set calendar,” she said.
