Election system is hard to trust

- — David Brown, Longmont

Our trust-based election system has run its course, at least with me.

We send out millions of ballots and thousands of those will not be deliverable. I have to trust those undeliverable ballots are not fraudulently voted.

I have to trust that signature verification is honestly accomplished for every ballot.

I have to trust that only valid voters’ legal ballots are deposited into drop boxes. There is a Boulder County drop box video that shows what appears to be a mule posing with his ballots fanned in front of a ballot drop box, before he deposits them. It is unclear why this person needs his picture taken, but the movie “2000 Mules” explains that a pic serves as proof so the person can get paid for his efforts.

With Secretary of State Jena Griswold actively fighting a lawsuit merely asking her to clean up our voter rolls, I have to trust that only living, authorized voters are voting.

I’m now legally required to trust that so-called “trusted builds” don’t forever destroy election data, which has happened before, since proving it through a future forensic audit would be difficult, if not impossible. Since the election machines are known to have wireless devices installed, I have to trust that no one hacks into the machines and changes votes or creates new, unauthorized databases.

Finally, when fraud rears its ugly head and a case goes before a judge, I have to trust the judge makes an honest decision or will even hear the case.

If I’m to be honest, I trust our broken election system about as far as I can throw it, which I’d love to do, straight into the garbage, given the opportunity.
