1971 - 2023

-

Richard Wayne Roe, 51, of St. George, Utah and Ninilchik, Alaska, died on Wednesday, January 25, at St. George Regional Hospital. Richie/"clem" was born on September 29, 1971 in Longmont, Colorado to Connie and Richard M. Roe. When he was 13, the family moved to Ninilchik, Alaska, where he was able to camp, ride snowmachines, and, of course, fish. He graduated from Ninilchik School in 1990 and received his certification in Airplane Mechanics from Colorado Aerotech in 1992. His favorite times in Colorado were hunting trips with his cousin Bobby and his Grandpa Roe. He returned to Alaska to work with his dad in the family business, Alaska Fishing Charter/roe's Charters. Richie captained his own boat for over twenty years, most of the time without a deckhand, using his skills as a fisherman to help others get the catch of their lives. He loved to help people, especially kids, learn how to fish; even when he could have a line in the water, he spent his time patiently teaching, baiting hooks, and offering tips.

It was through fishing that Richie met the love of his life, Tami Calobeer, through her sister Chris, a repeat customer who became a close family friend. They were married on April 16, 2016 at the home of his cousin Camie, who graciously created a beautiful venue for them. Richie even wore a tux. With Tami, he gained three daughters: an artist, a kind helper/athlete, and his favorite fishing buddy. Richie spent hours creating elaborate set-ups for Christmas surprises or teaching the girls or his nieces and nephews how to fish, shoot, or work on things. If an item could be fixed, he would do it himself; if it could be adapted or jerry-rigged, he would figure out a way - even before it was broken. Richie was preceded in death by his parents, Richard M. and Connie Roe; his infant sister, Patty Jo; his grandparents, Dick and Judy Roe and Al and Jackie Poe; his aunts, Gloria Simpson and Terri Poe; and his uncles, Rob Roe and Brian Poe.

He is survived by his wife, Tami Calobeer, of St. George, Utah; stepdaughters Jade, Bentli, and Sage; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kerri Roe (Fridrik) and Tawna Duncan (Ron) of Soldotna, Alaska; sisters-in-law, Chris Alberts and Amber Thompson; uncle Wayne Simpson; aunt Elly Poe; multiple cousins; and a number of nieces and nephews. Cremation has been entrusted to Affordable Funerals and Cremations in St. George, Utah. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 6th, at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Colorado. As Richie preferred flannel shirts and jeans, casual attire is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, please take a kid out and teach them how to fish.
