Call of weapon near Lyons High School likely was boy playing with BB gun
Sheriff’s deputies late Thursday afternoon responded to a call of a person carrying what appeared to be a rifle near Lyons High School, prompting the school to be placed on secure status.
“A reporting party saw a male walking in the open space near the school and looked to have a rifle,” the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday night news release. “… An open field search and drone deployment was conducted, and nothing was found.
“Later, a juvenile male and his mother contacted a deputy on scene, as they believed they were responsible for the police response. It was later determined the juvenile was playing a ‘warstyle’ game with a BB gun on their private property and came onto open space property for a short period of time before returning to their property.”
The Sheriff’s Office said that the boy and his mom were apologetic and took responsibility for the situation.
This case remains open pending further investigation, the release said. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Longmont Police Department and St. Vrain Valley School District personnel responded to the incident. A small number of students were in the school during the incident for after school activities.
King Soopers plans Frederick store
Groundbreaking is anticipated to begin on a King Soopers Marketplace in Frederick this fall, according to a news release issued Friday.
The 123,000-squarefoot marketplace will be at the northwest corner of Colorado Boulevard and Colo. 52 in the Silverstone master-planned community.
Once completed, the King Soopers in Frederick will be the largest grocery store in the Carbon Valley and create approximately 300 jobs, the news release said.
“Residents in Frederick and the southern portion of the Carbon Valley have expressed a desire for expanded amenities, specifically the prospect of a grocery store,” Mayor Tracie Crites said in the news release.
The project, which is a public-private partnership, includes the town of Frederick, the Frederick Urban Renewal Authority, Silverstone Metropolitan District No. 3 and Evergreen Development.
“We welcome the new marketplace and know its business tenants will thrive in our wonderful town,” Crites said.
