Sylvester (Skip) Fueston 1942 - 2023

Sylvester "Skip" Fueston was called home to the Lord in February, 2023.

Skip was born and raised in Lebanon, Ohio. Growing up, he was very active in sports and lettered in several. After high school, he followed the Fueston family tradition of serving his country by joining the military. He enlisted in the Navy, serving aboard an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Shangri-la. He served in Vietnam working in aerial reconnaissance and developed a lifelong love of photography. Near the end of his military service, he helped with the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honored with an award for his work.

At age 21, he married his sweetheart, Patricia Sautter. They enjoyed experiencing life together over the next 60 years. They moved to Mansfield, Ohio where they welcomed their three children. Skip was a hands-on father and he enjoyed spending time with his kids, often serving as a coach for little league teams.

Skip obtained his bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and his masters degree from Ashland College. He worked as a science teacher at Madison Jr. High. Later, he taught computer science at Madison High School. In the 1980s, he started a business, KISS data systems, where he taught computer skills to both children and adults. After retiring from the Madison School District, he worked as a computer and technology consultant for the Highland School District, where he applied for and received millions of dollars in grants to purchase, install, and network computers for this rural school district. He was passionate about the importance of education and he passed on this love of learning to his children and grandchildren.

After retirement, Skip and Pat moved to Longmont, Colorado to enjoy the natural beauty of the state. They quickly made many friends through the Newcomers Group. Skip enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, and golfing. He also spent many hours volunteering in schools. He loved helping his neighbors, friends and community. He was a Master Mason & Elk, as well as a member of Faith Community Lutheran church.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his three children, John, Robert and Jill, his daughter-in-law Heather, son-in-law Nate, and his three grandchildren, Mahayla, Christopher, and William. His grandchildren were a special blessing in his life. Skip is also survived by his brother, Tom of Saratoga Springs, New York, sister Vivian and brother-in-law Jeff from Lebanon, Ohio, and sister Krista from Ohio. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as a long-time dear friend, Reggie Sturts. His parents Etta Mae and Sylvester Sr. preceded him in death.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado on April 13th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the Faith Community Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
