Broncos release veteran trio, create just over $26M in cap

As free agency approaches, Denver is creating salary cap space.

The Broncos are releasing offensive lineman Graham Glasgow, running back Chase Edmonds and cornerback Ronald Darby, sources confirmed to The Post, which will create approximat­ely $26.57 million in salary cap room for 2023.

Each player was considered a logical candidate for either release or contract restructur­ing.

Panthers acquire NFL’S No. 1 overall draft pick from Bears

The Carolina Panthers are on the clock.

The Panthers have traded up to acquire the No. 1 overall pick in the draft from the Chicago Bears in exchange for Carolina’s No. 9 and No. 61 overall picks in 2023, a first-round pick in 2024, a second-round pick in 2025 and star receiver D.J. Moore, two people familiar with the deal said.

Dolphins to pick up QB Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option

The Miami Dolphins are picking up the fifth-year option on quarterbac­k Tua Tagovailoa’s contract, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

Tagovailoa, who Miami drafted fifth overall in 2020, will enter the fourth year of his rookie deal this upcoming season and will be guaranteed $23.2 million.

Flyers fire embattled GM Fletcher, name Briere interim

The Philadelph­ia Flyers fired general manager Chuck Fletcher and promoted franchise great Danny Briere to the interim job, the latest front-office shakeup for an organizati­on that has not won a Stanley Cup since 1975.

Fletcher, who was also president of hockey operations, was fired a week after he failed to make any major moves at the trade deadline.

Pastner fired after 7 seasons as Georgia Tech coach

Josh Pastner was fired as Georgia Tech’s basketball coach, two seasons after he guided the Yellow Jackets to a surprising Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament title.

Pastner was dumped after seven seasons at the school in midtown Atlanta, his fate sealed by a second straight losing season and few signs of progress in a program that was once a national powerhouse.

The Yellow Jackets were 15-18 this season.

St. John’s fires men’s basketball coach Anderson

St. John’s fired men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson, one day after his fourth season in charge ended with an overtime loss to No. 6 Marquette in the Big East Tournament quarterfin­als to cap an 18-15 season.

The decision comes just two years after Anderson was the Big East coach of the year, earning him a contract extension through the 2026-27 season.

But the Red Storm never made the NCAA Tournament under Anderson.

Even before the move became official there was speculatio­n St. John’s would target Iona coach Rick Pitino, 70, as Anderson’s replacemen­t.

Ohtani leads Japan over South Korea at World Classic

Shohei Ohtani doubled and singled for his second straight two-hit game, and Japan overcame a three-run deficit to beat South Korea 13-4 for its second straight win at the World Baseball Classic.

The Czech Republic defeated China 8-5 in the other Group B game as Martin Muzik hit a go-ahead, three-run homer following a double by his brother Matej in a four-run top of the ninth.

In Group A, Cuba beat Panama 13-4 as Yoán Moncada and Yadil Mujica drove in four runs each, and host Taiwan defeated Italy 11-7.

Thompson takes down Tsitsipas at Paribas Open

Stefanos Tsitsipas was beaten 7-6 (0), 4-6, 7-6 (5) by Aussie Jordan Thompson in second-round play at the BNP Paribas Open.

No. 3 seed Casper Ruud cruised past Diego Schwartzma­n 6-2, 6-3.

In women’s play, No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Evgeniya Rodina, 6-2, 6-0.

Sass trades goal crease to oversee Bills stadium project

Kimberly Sass has traded in her goal crease for a constructi­on hat and a football.

The recently retired goalie, who won a National Women’s Hockey League championsh­ip with the Metropolit­an Riveters in 2018, has been hired as project manager to represent the Buffalo Bills in the building of the team’s new stadium.
