Photos: Longmont donates firetruck to sister city Guzman, Mexico

PATTI BROWN ZLATEN >> Are there not communities in Colorado that could use a fire truck or an additional fire truck? It’s not that I’m anti-donations and charitable acts, it’s just that we have our own needs here in Colorado.

TRACY GOAD >> Way to go Janice Rebhan! Great work!

Barn near Longmont destroyed in fire

ZOEY SHERRY >> A three-story barn? That sounds more like a barndominium

MICHRAE MARIE JANDREAU >> That’s sad. My great-grandma had a small farm on Mccall Drive. I stayed there every summer for a few years.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office adds new K-9

ELITESOLUTIONS LTD >> Look at the cuteness overload!

VALERIE VOLPE >> 9-year-old puppy? I think they meant 9-monthold. Anyway, adorable addition to the BCSO!

REX LACEBY >> Yay.

LISA BEIN HAINLINE >> Be safe and productive, Watson!

CLAYTON CASEY >> Watson will be a great addition.

Firestone searches for new dog park location

PORTER DEE >> Yes, please! And don’t make it full of rocks like in Frederick. Dogs like to run on grass — even the weeds that look like grass are better than pebbles.

ZOEY SHERRY >> Do not look directly at the dog park.

STACY FLAHERTY >> A little late to start looking.

MATT ZAFFREE >> Barefoot would be a great area.

Swatting incident at Taffy Shop rocks Estes Park

ANNE WEGENER BRUNNER >> What a complete waste of resources and money. This is what we get for not actually punishing kids. MARK MCCARTHY >> That taffy is the best. Yours was like creamy toffee.

Longmont City Council supports prohibiting dogs at Button Rock Preserve

RICK ACCOUNTIUS >> I believe Longmont has some of the best water in the country. So what has changed? Are people complaining about the water? Is our Water Department struggling to keep quality high? Is the raw water entering our treatment plants showing a significant increase in canine feces? Will prohibiting dogs save tax dollars in the treatment of the water? Should we kill off the fish? How is the water downstream going to be protected? Is the ecological health of the preserve diminishing? By staff’s own presentation, biodiversity loss is due to climate change — not dogs. What council-endorsed studies have been conducted to prove the preserve or water is in jeopardy? I agree a plan is needed to manage the preserve. I do not agree with the bias(ed) conclusion that dogs have a significant detrimental impact on the preserve. Clearly, this seems more of an effort to reduce visitations. Another freedom eroded.

ANN C. NOONAN >> This seems like a draconian solution to an undefined problem. Do we really have water samples showing that there is contamination from dogs? Is there not something we could do as a middle intervention, like increasing fines for unleashed dogs, or not picking up refuse? We limit the fishing. Could we make some sort of a Longmont city tag for a limited number of dogs who live in the Longmont area? My dogs and I have been walking Button Rock for over 25 years and have watched it grow in popularity. It would be a travesty to just wave a hand and say dogs can no longer be there.

JOHN D CALDWELL >> There was years of study, and the council made the right call. There are a number of good reasons. Also this is Button Rock Preserve, not park. This is our pristine water supply for over 100,000 people. There are other places to take your dog.

Longmont landmark Tower of Compassion turns 50

KIM SCHIFANO >> I used to live right across the street from this beautiful tower. Cheers to Tu and Jason, owners of Sushi Box in north Longmont, who are in the process of painting a mural of this tower on the wall of their restaurant.

DIANE MITCHEM >> Thanks to a very special family that has made Longmont a beautiful place to live. Thank you for being such wonderful people.

REBEKAH MILLION-STEELE >> I love this Longmont icon. Makes me proud to live here.

CAMERON HUNTER >> One of the real gems of Longmont.

PHYLLIS MEHRWEIN MARTIN >> Wonderful family and a wonderful gift for our city. Thank you.

VIKI BRANCH SAMSON >> Great story! Great memories!

KEITH MICHAEL >> Very cool since 50 years ago I came home to Colorado after three years in Japan. I’m 54 now.

Frederick denies RV dealer’s request for 7,000-volt electric security fence

CHAD MASON >> I work at a truck dealership. We’ve paid thousands of dollars companywide for catalytic converters being stolen. They should be allowed to have the fence.

LEE MALWITZ >> If the city won’t let them build the fence (they should) sue the city for damages that occur due to the lack of an electric fence.

ROBERT HANS >> Sounds like Frederick doesn’t need the tax money the RV dealer pays. Time to move to a city that wants you.

DOUG PADDOCK >> My business was broken into weekly, but once we put up the electric fence it all stopped. Give them the fence.

TAMMY BARTOS >> Let’s not allow a business owner to protect what is his from criminals.

RUSSELL GRIFFITHS >> I hope that dealership leaves. I moved mine from there and don’t regret it.

CHEYANNE FAIROW >> That’s just not right. Why can’t they protect their investment? Theft just down the road from them recently. I understand the business’s concern.

Pop-up roller skating rink makes Longmont debut

HEATHER HEASLEY >> They should do a permanent one where Wild Game was. Leave as much arcade stuff there as possible and add a roller rink.

MICHELLE WHITE >> Yay. This is so cool and needed for Longmont. ELYCIA EBERLEIN >> OMG! I’m so excited.

DAVID INGRAHAM >> We definitely need one back in town.

CAREY LUEBCKE CLARK >> This is so exciting! Grew up with the Roll-o-rena too.

TAMMY SALISBURY >> I skated at Roll-o-rena in Longmont all the time as a kid (and) loved that place. Yes, please bring a permanent roller rink to Longmont.
