Unsolicited calls
For the person receiving unwanted solicitation phone calls: We feel your pain. We are on the national and state of Colorado “Do Not Call” lists, and we are bombarded by phone calls. I can’t imagine how many we would get if we weren’t even on those two lists. The national number is 888-382-1222, and the Colorado no call list is 800-309-7041.
Speed limits?
I am convinced that there are no speed limits in Longmont. Everyone drives just as fast as they want to. (I) never see police pulling over anyone for anything.
Broken treaties
We should all thank our county commissioners for teaching us how the Indians felt about treaties that last as long as the grass shall grow and the rivers shall flow. I plan on remembering this when they ask us to extend the open space tax to use my tax dollars to make sure developers don’t starve to death.
Arts center
Those proposing an entertainment facility at the old sugar factory need to provide answers to some serious questions, including: Why the change in location from South Main Street? How can the cost be the same when they have to deal with the asbestos that stopped previous attempts to use that property? Will transportation be an issue? Who’s going to use the facility?
Goodfellas
Go, Goodfellas. Thank God the Times-call put something in the paper that was a Christian based activity, talking about Christian people, with all the trouble in the world we have today. … We need more good news.
Permethrin
In response to the concerns about permethrin spraying by VDCI for mosquitoes:
As a longtime beekeeper in Boulder County, for over 40 years, we’ve never had a significant problem with permethrin spraying. That’s not to say that it shouldn’t be applied according to the EPA instructions. … It’s an analog from chrysanthemums. It’s a synthetic, but it was purposely used to be less toxic. And if it’s applied according to the (label), it doesn’t affect the bees. That’s why they spray it at night. And the other side of it is they spray it to control mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are vectors for a number of diseases. And this season in particular, we have a problem with West Nile virus, and those vectors need to be controlled. The adverse effects from West Nile virus or Western equine (encephalitis) or other vector borne diseases that mosquitoes transmit is of a much higher risk category than what using permethrin according to label would do in terms of controlling mosquitoes.
