Former Indiana guard Bedford transferring to CU
Versatile lineman has started at several different positions
More experience is coming to Colorado’s offensive line.
On Tuesday evening, former Indiana guard Matthew Bedford announced his decision to transfer to CU. He is joining Hoosiers teammate Kahlil Benson, who committed to CU on Saturday.
During his five seasons at Indiana, Bedford started 38 of the 41 games he played for the Hoosiers and he has experience across the line. He started 11 times at left guard, 10 times at right guard, nine times at right tackle and eight times at left tackle.
Voted Indiana’s offensive newcomer of the year in 2019, Bedford earned All-big Ten honorable mention in 2021. After starting the opener in 2022, he missed the rest of the season with an injury and then returned to the starting lineup this year. The 6-foot6, 305-pounder has one year of eligibility remaining.
Bedford was graded as Indiana’s best offensive lineman this past season by Pro Football Focus, with a grade of 69.2. According to PFF, he allowed two sacks and 15 quarterback pressures.
PFF graded Bedford as the sixth-best guard in the Big Ten and only three guards had a better run blocking grade.
Bedford is the fifth offensive lineman to transfer to CU in the past several days.
On Saturday, CU got commitments from Benson, who was Indiana’s starting right tackle, as well as center Yakiri Walker (Connecticut) and guards Tyler Johnson (Houston) and Justin Mayers (UTEP). All of them were starters at their previous schools.
That group has a combined 114 career starts at the FBS level and they’ve allowed a total of 10 sacks over the past two seasons.
CU and head coach Deion Sanders are revamping the offensive line after allowing a school-record 56 sacks this past season.
