Green Party sets candidate forum

The Longmont Green Party is scheduled to host a “Break The System” forum for various congressio­nal candidates on Jan. 5.

The free, virtual event will occur from 5-6 p.m. online and may be viewed via Zoom.

Longmont Green Party cochair Patrick Dillon will host the forum that is set to include: Jason Call, who is running for Washington’s 2nd Congressio­nal District seat; Sean Dougherty, who is vying for California’s 19th Congressio­nal District seat; Christina Khalil, who is running to represent New Jersey in the United States Senate; and Justin Paglino, who is also running for Connecticu­t’s U.S. Senate seat.

“This event is the first of many that aspires to propel these candidates onto the national stage while encouragin­g the active participat­ion of Green Party members in Colorado and across the country in the upcoming 2024 elections,” the announceme­nt stated.

Man fatally shot by police on U.S. 36 is identified

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed by law enforcemen­t on U.S. 36 on Sunday.

Efren Inda, 50, was fatally shot after Colorado State Patrol

Troopers and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Mccaslin Boulevard and U.S. 36 to assist a motorist.

The coroner’s office said the cause or manner of Inda’s death are pending further investigat­ion.

At about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, a CSP trooper approached the vehicle, noticed bullet holes in the window, backed away, and radioed for additional officers.

Deputies from Boulder County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist and convinced the driver to step out of the vehicle and place his firearm down on the car, according to a news release.

Once additional officers arrived on the scene, the release stated, the individual picked up his weapon and aimed it at law enforcemen­t. The individual was shot by authoritie­s, and died at the scene.

The release did not say how many officers fired or if Inda fired his weapon.
