Colorado Air Quality Control Commission to hold hearing on Cemex permit

The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission is holding an online public hearing at 4 p.m. Friday on a permit renewal for the Cemex cement plant near Lyons.

The hearing was requested by Good Neighbors of Lyons, a residential advocacy group that wants Cemex to comply with the Clean Air Act or be closed. The state also accepted written comments in November as part of Cemex’s Title V operating permit renewal.

According to Good Neighbors of Lyons, the permit should be modified by adding improved monitoring requirements, stricter conditions, and harsher and more timely consequences for non-compliance with air quality standards.
