Longmont man charged with possession

A Longmont man was charged with possessing child sex exploitation material on Tuesday.

Stevie Brown, 44, was charged with ten counts of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of habitual sex offender against children, a sentence enhancer, and two counts of failure to register as a sex offender.

According to a release, Brown was arrested on April 4 after a year of evading arrest. Brown was located by Grand Junction Police Department at a homeless shelter.

According to an affidavit, on Nov. 30, 2022, the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab was assigned a tip through the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The tip revealed that on July 6, 2022, Microsoft — Online Services became aware of content believed to be child sexual exploitation material that was uploaded via Bing Image, according to the affidavit.

On Sept. 19, 2022, a Homeland Security investigator served Longmont Power and Communications a summons to identify the owner of the IP address and determined the owner was a Longmont resident.

A search warrant was executed on Feb. 8, 2023 at the residence in the 1700 block of Whitehall Drive. Two residents were found inside, the named owner of the IP address and Brown. Both are registered sex offenders and said they’d met during their probation.

Many electronic devices were seized as evidence, including a laptop. According to the affidavit, forensic analysis of the laptop found more than 1,400 images and one video containing child sex exploitation material.

User accounts and pictures found on the device indicated Brown was the laptop’s user.

An arrest warrant was signed on Feb. 21, 2023. Brown is set for a preliminary hearing on April 29 in Boulder County Court.
