- By Jarreau Freeman

A series of vehicle breakins were reported in Jenkintown Sept. 17, according to Jenkintown police.

Victims in the 200 block of Rodman Avenue reported their vehicles had been entered and rummaged through between 6 and 11:33 a.m., police said. Authorities said that loose change, candy and sunglasses valued at $400 were reported missing from these vehicles, police said.

Victims in the 200 block of Runnymede Avenue also reported thefts from their vehicles between 5:20 a.m. and 2:50 p.m., police said. Money was reported missing from these vehicles, police said.

A couple from the 400 block of Maple Avenue reported their vehicles, which were parked in their driveway, were rummaged through and that a total of $10 in change was taken from the vehicles, police said.

Also, a couple from the 400 block of Vernon Road reported that their vehicles, which were also parked the driveway, had been entered and that loose change, a portable power inverter, valued at $70, and digital projector, valued at $500 were missing, police said.

In all the incidences reported the vehicles were unlocked, police said.

The Sept. 17 break-ins are not related to the series of break-ins that occurred in July in the 200, 400 and 500 blocks of Runnymede Avenue, according to Jenkintown police Chief Albert DiValentino

Two Philadelphia juveniles were recently arrested by Abington police, he said.

“We think the juveniles were possibly arrested Friday night [Sept. 21],” he said. “We assume that they were doing our jobs as well, but we are unsure.”

A Jenkintown detective will investigate to see if the recently detained juveniles are connected to the Jenkintown thefts, DiValentino said.

“Ninty-nine point nine percent of the time [the suspects] never admit to what they are not caught doing,” he said.

In a recent alert posted on the Jenkintown Borough website, DiValentino advised residents to lock their vehicles whenever they are parked. He also encourages residents to call 911 or the Jenkintown Police Department at 215UU4-1200 if they see or hear anything suspicious in their neighborhood.
