LM board OKS new stop signs
The iower Moreland Board of Commissioners approved the installation of two new stop signs in the Woodmont housing development at its meeting Sept. 19. The new stop signs will be placed along Daylily Way and at the intersection with Copper Beech Road.
According to Township Manager Rick Mellor, the Woodmont Homeowners Association approached the township about the stop signs earlier in the year. Before any decision was made about the signs, the police department conducted a traffic study at the two locations. Mellor said the police determined the two areas were high traffic locations and stop signs would improve safety.
During the commissioners meeting, the board also discussed improvements that had been made to roads that are often congested during rush hour. Two improvements to traffic, according to Commissioners Jill Blumhardt and Rob DeMartinis, have been at the intersection of Huntingdon Pike and Philmont Avenue and Red iion Road and Philmont Avenue.
“I’ve been taking Huntingdon Pike home and I haven’t had to wait in a long backup of traffic,” Blumhardt said, “because of the [installation of the] right-hand turning lane.”
At Red iion Road and Philmont Avenue there have been adjustments to the traffic lights so the lights change more often, keeping traffic from building up on Red iion Road.
“It’s been pretty unbelievable,” DeMartinis said.
