Edward A. Filmyer Jr., M.D., of Glenside, died Sept. 18, 2012. Born on Feb. 14, 1918, he was the son of Edward A. Sr. and Anna M. (nee Eger) Filmyer. He had two brothers, Bernard G., a Jesuit priest, and William G., former president of Pioneer Salt & Chemical Co. He had one sister Laura Wittkofski, of sirginia Beach, sa. The family lived in Glenside, Pa.

Edward married Ruth Helen Stapleton in 1946.They bought the home on Lynnwood Avenue in 1947 and raised five children, RuthAnn, Edward, John, Bernard and Michael. He lived there till his death in 2012. He was a lifelong resident of Glenside and a lifelong member of St. Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.

He attended St. Luke’s Elementary School, Glenside, Pa., St. Joseph’s Preparator­y High School, Philadelph­ia, Pa., St. Joseph’s College, Philadelph­ia, Pa., and Jefferson Medical College, Philadelph­ia, Pa.

He was a captain in the r.S. Army Medical Corps and served in the Pacific Theater. He was a medical officer on troop transports bringing wounded soldiers and prisoners of war back to West Coast cities. He also served as a medical of- ficer on medical trains that crisscross­ed the country delivering wounded soldiers to their hometown. He was discharged in 1946.

He started a pediatric medical practice in Glenside, Pa. after the war. He served the surroundin­g community for 43 years. (1947 to 1990). He was on the staff of Abington Memorial Hospital and Holy Redeemer Hospital. He built his practice and eventually joined with G. Russell Reiss, MD in 1960. FilmyerRei­ss served the area until 1990, when he retired. At that time, it was common for doctors to make house calls and he became known for his genuine concern for the sick children.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Glenside.

She is survived by a son, Franklin C. Kelton Jr., M.D., and his wife, Denise vonkoske, of West Chester, Pa.; a daughter, Barbara Kelton Steinhilbe­r, and her husband, Chaplain Gustaf H. Steinhilbe­r (Col., r.S. Army, ret.) of Windsor, Pa.; a brother, Ronald Clemson of Tamaqua; grandchild­ren Katherine Kelton, Elizabeth Kelton Sheehan, Caroline Kelton Sanborne, Sarah Kelton, Jill Matejkovic, Heather Matejkovic, Matthew Steinhilbe­r, Jody Steinhilbe­r and Lisa Kristine Dale; three great-grandchild­ren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, William and Richard Clemson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, 689 Sugartown Road, Malvern. Friends and relatives may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Glyn Ruppe-Melnyk will officiate.

A memorial service will also be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at ZizelmannR­oche Funeral Home, 500 East Broad St., Tamaqua, Pa. Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Chaplain Gustaf H. Steinhilbe­r, (Col., r.S. Army, ret.) officiatin­g.

Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pa.
