High school receives two bomb threats in two days
CHELTENHAM » Cheltenham High School was the subject of two bomb threats on consecutive days last week.
A bomb threat caused the school to go on lockdown and then dismiss students early June 5.
Police received a call at 9:57 a.m. June 5 from a 911 only phone from a male saying he was about to blow up Cheltenham High School, 500 Rices Mill Road, police said.
“Cheltenham High School and Cedarbrook Central have been evacuated after Administration learned of a bomb threat from the Cheltenham Police Department. Students have gathered at a designated rally point. We will follow up with more details as they become available,” district wrote in a tweet at 7:45 a.m. June 5.
The district announced less than an hour later that students were to be dismissed due to the ongoing police investigation at the school.
The school was evacuated and swept by canines, but nothing was found, police said.
The district tweeted at 12:26 p.m. that police had cleared the building.
Just 24 hours later, Cheltenham police received a 911 call about a bomb threat at the school, according to a tweet from the Cheltenham School District at 7:08 a.m. June 6. The school was placed on lockdown as police investigated.
Police received a call from a male believed to be the same person stating there was a bomb in the high school, police said. The school was not evacuated, but it was swept and nothing was found, police said.
The lockdown had been lifted by 8:58 a.m., according to the district’s Twitter account.
“Cheltenham Police searched hallways, classrooms and external grounds and gave the allclear to lift the lockdown,” the district tweeted.
Police investigation into the incidents is ongoing.
A group of Cedarbrook Middle School students, termed Cedarbrook Central, are located at the high school as the school has split students among three locations while the building undergoes renovations.
