Lisovyy sends Lower Moreland to District 1-2A tennis title

LOWER MORELAND 5, GWYNEDD MERCY 0 >> Nikole Lisovyy de- feated Kelsey Van Thuyne in first singles, helping Lower Moreland capture its fourth straight District 1-2A team title on Wednesday.

Ally Cheiken defeated Isabella Kellner 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

ACADEMY NEW CHURCH 1, FRIENDS CENTRAL 0 >> Chakra Wade scored the lone goal for ANC Wednesday in the victory.

WISSAHICKO­N 58, EASTERN YORK 43>> Wissahicko­n football fans traveled out to Eastern York to watch a Friday night football game and were treated with a basketball game instead. The young Trojans were able to notch their first victory Friday night, besting Eastern York 5843.

The Trojans put the scoreboard operator at work early behind the running of senior Chris Smalls to take a lead of 6-0. Eastern York behind a high powered passing offense was able to strike early and often in the first quarter to take a 21-6 lead mid-way through the quarter.

The young Trojans did not put their head down, and was able to respond back to close 1st quarter with a score by way of a pass from Nick Santo to Maurice Willis.

The 2nd quarter saw the Trojans jump on the back of Smalls and the arm of Nick Santo to go into the half down 28-20.

The defense started the 2nd half with a stand to force Eastern York to their first punt of the night. Wissahicko­n responded back with a TD run by Smalls to tie the score 28-28.

Eastern York responded with a drive of its own giving them the lead once again at 35-28.

Wissahicko­n moved the ball down the field with runs and a long pass from Santo to Caso to set the team up for the score. A missed extra point left the score 35-34.

At this point in the game, lighting struck quickly for the Trojans.

In a span of two minutes Wissahicko­n put 24 points on the board. A TD run by Smalls, a fumble recovery and score for Tyler Caso, and another TD run by Smalls accounted for the scoring.

All three scores were followed with 2-point conversion­s by Jalen Smalls. This barrage of points allowed the Trojans to secure the victory.

Smalls had a career night finishing the game with 24 carries for 249 yards and 4 TDs. He also had 2 catches for 18 yards and a sack.

Nick Santo continued to perform in his sophomore season going 12-26 for 202 yards with 2 TDs and 3 INTs.

Maurice Willis continues his stellar senior season with 3 catches for 99 yards with 2 TDs.

Tyler Caso put in a complete game on both sides of the ball. Offensivel­y, he had 3 catches for 52 yards, 2 carries for 5 yards with a TD. Defensivel­y, he had a fumble return for a TD and numerous QB pressures.

BALDWIN 3, GA 2 >> Shannon Topley had 37 assists but the Patriots fell in five sets on Friday night. The Patriots (5-10, 1-6) lost 19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 12-25, 22-20.

Mackenzie Brooks had 22 kills and 12 digs for the Bucks while Juliana Stump finished with 24 digs and six kills.

Nicole Ford collected 13 kills, 21 digs and five aces for Dock (8-8) Cailie Ridge made 20 digs while La’Akea Fujita had 10 digs and six kills.

GA 13, EA 10 >> A thrilling comeback win against league rival Episcopal Academy capped off GA’s week of road battles. Four quarters weren’t enough to decide a winner as the teams ended regulation deadlocked at 10. The Patriots had to claw back from a 7-3 deficit in the second half to deadlock the game and send it in to extra time. Junior captain Walker Butler led the way during the comeback, tallying seven goals in regulation. Playing with a short bench due to two starters fouling out, GA had several players step up in the fourth and overtime. This was highlighte­d by senior Dan Araten’s pair of goals in the first frame of OT.

GA 19, LAWRENCEVI­LLE SCHOOL 13>> Noah Spratt paced Germantown Academy with six goals, Noah Spratt scored four times and the Patriots topped Lawrencevi­lle School for a nonleague victory Wednesday.

Sean Keenan had three goals while Jack Forde finished with five assists and a goal for GA (16-6, 3-1). Aiden Walsh and Walker Bulter both scored twice with Butler also handing out a pair of assists.
