Is this still America?

-

To the Editor:

In the last few months, we have witnessed several instances of the corruption of our society and its institutions. We are in an epic battle for the survival of our beloved republic, right vs. left, good vs. evil.

During Judge Kavanaugh’s hearings, our “esteemed” senators showed their well-planned and orchestrated theatrics by interrupting, shouting and being totally disruptive/disrespectful. The screaming protestors were finally removed, but the senators continued to perform in unison.

At President Trump’s recent press conference, over 80 so-called journalists gathered to display their total lack of decorum. They mimicked the same conduct displayed at the Kavanaugh hearings. The press seemed to relish in their newly accepted, crude behavior.

The thousands of people presently approaching our border have no respect for the rights of the American people; they want what they want, and they expect to get it. If our own government officials and our own press have no respect for how they behave and how they are perceived, can we expect any more from those intent upon invading our country?

The left has encouraged their constituents to surround and harass their perceived enemies, to kick them when they are down. Their followers have dutifully taken up the gauntlet. The latest incident involved a masked Antifa group arriving outside of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson’s home, shouting, defacing his property and trying to intimidate and promote fear among those present in his home. Carlson’s home address and those of his relatives and friends were posted on Twitter.

Is this still America? Do we now need personal security contractors to guard our homes? What happened to law enforcement, arrest and prosecution?

President Trump is vowing to protect our borders with our military. Who is protecting our neighborhoods, counties and cities when our police are told to “stand down”? — Margaret W. Adelsberger, Willow Grove
