Shout the truth of climate change from the rooftops
To the Editor:
Recently I have been reading the book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.” In it, the authors use a term, “malignant normality,” to describe several situations throughout recent history.
First, the term is used to explain how Nazi doctors were able to abandon their Hippocratic Oath and perform horrific experiments on people being held in the prison camps and soldiers and agents of the government were able to employ severe interrogation tactics on detainees at the Abu Ghraib military prison in Iraq. It had become a malignant normality for those people.
The authors then referred to a third situation where, despite all the scientific data showing how climate change is affecting all of us and how the threats to plants, animals and humans are real and imminent, people continue to deny these scientific facts and go about their lives. It has become a malignant normality for these people.
How can we get people, especially our legislators, to understand the importance of regulating greenhouse gas emissions and maintaining increasing fuel efficiency standards to begin to reduce our impact on climate change?
Call or write your legislators, talk to your neighbors or just shout from the rooftops and tell them. — Rick Newsome, Horsham
