Fire re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion

CHEL­TENHAM >> The cause of a fire that broke out in the crawl space of a home in the 1600 block of Ju­niper Av­enue is still un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion, ac­cord­ing to Fire Mar­shal Joe O’Neill.

The res­i­dents were awak­ened by a smoke de­tec­tor around 6:30 a.m. Nov. 13 and saw smoke and called the fire depart­ment, O’Neill said. Fire­fight­ers ar­rived to find heavy smoke in­side and out­side the home and had to ven­ti­late the home and use ther­mal imag­ing to lo­cate the fire, he said.

“We had to saw up the floor in the util­ity room and den; it was a lot of dam­age,” O’Neill said.

About 30 fire­fight­ers from LaMott, Ogontz, Elkins Park, Glen­side and Jenk­in­town fire com­pa­nies re­sponded to the fire, which was un­der con­trol in about 50 min­utes, he
