Linda Lee Youells of Harleysville

-

Linda Lee Youells, 71, of Harleysville, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019.

Born April 17, 1947 in Doylestown, she is the youngest daughter of Lester

C. and Pauline C. Youells who have preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of North Penn High School class of 1965. During Linda’s life she worked at several small jobs before joining Merck Sharp and Dohme in North Wales. She worked there for 35 years until she retired in 2002 to raise alpacas and to take care of her parents.

Linda and her parents moved to Telford in 1971 so she could increase her breeding and training of horses. As time moved on the need to diversify became clear. Working through this process led Linda to raising different kinds of animals, from horses and emus, until she found the gentle alpacas. Her interest grew quickly and after doing more research and talking with many alpaca owners the investment potential in the animals and the fiber market became very clear. She and her mother settled on these magnificent animals and found them to be gentle and easy to handle. These qualities made them a good animal to work with people of all ages from little children to seniors. They founded Sloping View Alpaca Ranch in the fall of 1999 and she managed the farm until 2013. Linda remained active in the alpaca industry until five years before her death. She lived the last two years at the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA.

Linda is survived by three siblings, Daniel D. Youells and his wife, Eugenia, of Telford, Fay Youells of Lebanon, NH, and Susan Barr and her husband, Kenneth, of Pennsburg; two nieces and two nephews; 13 great nieces and nephews; and a great-great niece and nephew.

Linda’s viewing was held on Tuesday, January 15, in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave, Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Service. Interment in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Linda’s name to Crossroads Hospice, 523 Plymouth Road, Suite225, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462 or a charity of your choice.
