McSorley named to Penn State Harrisburg Baseball’s AllDecade Team

Ryan McSorley (Lansdale/ Lansdale Catholic) was named to Penn State Harrisburg baseball’s All-Decade team at shortstop. McSorley is currently ranked fourth in program history in runs scored (104) and on-base percentage (.430), fifth in doubles (21), sixth in hits (119) and second in hit-bypitches (35).

As a junior in 2020, McSorley tied the PSU Harrisburg game record for hits in a game with five in a 15-7 win over Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 22, 2020. He had a .413 batting percentage and a .525 on-base percentage in 12 games in 2020 before the rest of the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

• RIDER MEN’S BASKETBALL’S ALLEN POWELL (PHILADELPH­IA/LA SALLE) » Powell scored a careerhigh 20 points while Jaelen McGlone (Cheltenham/Cheltenham) had a season-best 13 points as the Broncs fell to Marist 76-67 last Saturday.

Powell had 18 points in the second half, finished 3-for-6 from beyond the 3-points arc and also had three rebounds, a block and a steal. McGlone, who collected 10 of his points after halftime, was 3-of-7 from three, grabbed three rebounds and also had an assist.

Last Friday in Rider’s 76-64 victory over Marist, Powell posted 13 points, four assists, two blocks and a steal with McGlone going for three points, two assists, a rebound and a steal.

• LIZZIE OLEARY (WILLOW GROVE/ ABINGTON) » Oleary had eight points and four rebounds for the Delaware women’s basketball team Sunday in its 79-67 win over UNCW.

In the Blue Hens’ 73-66 victory over UNCW last Saturday, Oleary collected three points, two rebounds and a steal.

• VILLANOVA MEN’S BASKETBALL’S COLLIN GILLESPIE (HUNTINGDON VALLEY/ARCHBISHOP WOOD » Gillespie finished with 15 points — tied for the team-high — a gamebest six assists and five rebounds as the Wildcats used a strong second half to beat Providence 71-56 last Saturday.

Gillespie was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers, hitting one to beat the halftime buzzer to pull ‘Nova within 27-24. The Wildcats proceeded to outscore the Friars 47-29 in the last 20 minutes.

Eric Dixon (Willow Grove/ Abington) added three points and a rebound for Villanova, which improved to 10-1 overall (5-0 Big East).

Last Tuesday, Gillespie scored a team-high 22 points as ‘Nova returned to play after a 27-day COVID-19 pause and earned 76-74 win over Seton Hall.
