Were you born in 1959?

-

If you were born in 1959, your full retirement age is 66 and 10 months.

You may still apply for retirement benefits as early as age 62, but you will receive a reduced benefit.

Benefits are reduced a fraction of a percent for each month before your full retirement age.

For example, if you start receiving retirement benefits at:

• Age 62, you will get 70.83 percent of the monthly benefit because you will be starting benefits 58 months prior to reaching your full age.

• Age 65, you will get 87.8 percent of the monthly benefit because you will be starting benefits 20 months prior to reaching your full age.

If you start receiving benefits as a spouse at your full retirement age, you will get 50 percent of your spouse’s full retirement age benefit. If you start receiving benefits at:

• Age 62, you will get 32.9 percent of the monthly benefit instead of 50 percent.

• Age 65, you will get 42.4 percent of the monthly benefit instead of 50 percent.
