Schools chief leaving for new post
Cheltenham School District Superintendent Wagner Marseille will soon step down from his post serving as the district’s highest ranking educational official.
Marseille announced his resignation in an
April 9 letter to families and staff members, extending his appreciation for those within the school district.
“Thank you to the Cheltenham community, staff, faculty, students, and community partners for allowing me the privilege of serving as the superintendent for a school district about which you carry a deep affinity,” Marseille said in the
April 9 letter.
Marseille first took on the superintendent role for the Montgomery County school district in 2015, according to a spokesperson. His resignation will take effect on June 30, following the end of the 2020-21 academic year.
“As I reflect on our journey, I’m in awe with what we accomplished to tell our story and let people know #thisischeltenham,” Marseille said in the April 9 letter. “I am proud of our collective achievements and am excited for what the future holds for Cheltenham.”
Marseille is set to become superintendent of Wallingford-Swarthmore School District in Delaware County, a Cheltenham School District spokesperson confirmed.
While there’s no set timeline in place to find Marseille’s replacement as of yet, Cheltenham School Board President Joel Fishbein and other school board members issued a statement of congratulations that same day.
“I appreciate Dr. Marseille’s service and wish him well in his new endeavor,” Fishbein said in a statement. “He’s left an indelible impression on this district.”
In the meantime, Marseille said he’d help education officials “during this period to ensure a smooth transition.”
Fishbein added the district’s school board will work to select an interim superintendent, while representatives seek a consulting firm to assist in finding a permanent leader.
“Please be assured the search process will include ample opportunity for community and stakeholder input about the desired characteristics of our next superintendent,” Fishbein said. “We will keep the community well informed throughout our search process.”
