Kinney, Cheltenham rally past Wissahicko­n

CHELTENHAM 35, WISSAHICKO­N 20 » Sparked by a pair of huge plays by senior Tyzeem Kinney, the Panthers rallied for the win on Friday.

His 25-yard touchdown run broke a 14-14 tie with 8:33 remaining in the game, and just over a minute later, Kinney came up with a pick six that upped the Panthers’ lead to 28-14.

Early on, it was the Trojans taking a 7-0 lead, thanks to a 57-yard Kyle Lehman touchdown run to end the first quarter. Cheltenham quarterbac­k RJ Taylor scored on a quarterbac­k sneak to make it a 7-7 game at the half.

The Panthers opened up a 14-7 lead early in the third quarter only to watch Jeremiah Clark even the score with a four-yard TD reception from Aidan DeFeo.

Abington goalie Marilyn Capps had 20 saves as the Galloping Ghosts (9-60, 8-5-0) had a three-game win streak snapped. SPRINGFIEL­D (M) 6, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 » Annie Coll scored twice and dished out two assists as Springfiel­d stopped a two-game skid by blanking William Tennent for an SOL Freedom win.

Emma Yoder had two goals and an assist for the Spartans, (9-5-0, 8-4-0 division) who led 4-0 at halftime. Norah Conlin finished with a goal and an assist while Hailey Lesniak added a goal.

UPPER MERION 3, ABINGTON 0 » The Vikings won in three close sets by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 27-25 on Saturday. The Vikings played the last match in the only gym that the Viking volleyball program has known. Next year, the UM will enter a brand new school. The volleyball team’s final record in the old gym will stand at 248-28 for a .900 winning percentage over 28 years. That includes a 32-5 record in District 1 playoff matches. In the Abington match, freshman Sophis Schweikert slammed down 31 kills while defensive counterpar­t Vanessa Hutchinson had 24 digs. Hutchinson also served 14 points (4 aces). Caitlyn Daywlat dished out 34 assists while Julia Giammarco filled the stat sheet with 9 service points (3 aces), five kills and eight digs.

UPPER DUBLIN 3, UPPER

MERION 2 » The Vikings fell in five tough sets on Friday 25-16, 18-25, 14-25, 26-24 and 15-11. Personal season highs were reached by Raven Albrecht in digs with 16, Sydney Bright with 12 kills, Caitlyn Daywalt with 45 assists and Julia Giammarco with 21 digs. HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, BOYERTOWN 0 » Grace Howard had 53 assists, eight digs and four aces as HatboroHor­sham topped Boyertown in four sets 27-25, 2628, 25-20, 25-20 to earn a nonleague win.

Kayla Jones led the Hatters with 18 kills while Nastya Tsetsko put down 17 kills. Jade Lauzier and Isabella Bombas added 11 and nine kills, respective­ly.

Hatboro-Horsham finished with 16 aces paced by Jones’ five. Howard finished with four aces, Maci Lumpkin had three, Lauzier collected a pair with Abigail Kostmalski and Ava Santo each having one. Meg Haftl added 36 assists and Mianny Ly had eight aces.
