Officials authorize $484,000 for Ida repairs
NORRISTOWN » The Montgomery County Commissioners have authorized more than $484,000 in contracts for ongoing repairs to damages from the remnants of Hurricane Ida.
The storm barreled through the area on Sept. 1, 2021, and brought with it historic flooding levels and an EF-2 tornado.
Five months after issuing an emergency disaster declaration, the county is still cleaning up.
Through a state contract, a roughly $63,224 agreement with Deere & Company, of Cary, North Carolina, covered equipment to replace a John Deere compact utility truck that sustained damage at Central Perkiomen Valley Park.
Several other previously awarded contracts were revised during the Feb. 3 Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting.
A contract with Loftus Construction Inc., of Souderton, to repair a stone arch bridge at Sunrise Mill required another $324,290 for “construction repairs necessary due to Hurricane Ida damage.” The contract now stands at $1,623,290.
Another $12,000 was tacked on to a contract between the Montgomery County Department of Assets and Infrastructure and Gannett Fleming Inc., of Audubon.
According to the contract, the original agreement covered
“engineering, environmental permitting and construction consultation for the rehabilitation of Old Neiffer Road (Sunrise Mill Bridge) over Swamp Creek in Upper Frederick Township.”
It was amended for “additional engineering services required due to bridge damages that occurred during Hurricane Ida,” according to the contract, which is totaled around $251,906.
In repairing that same bridge in Upper Frederick Township, a previously awarded contract with McTish, Kunkel & Associates, of Allentown, for inspection services needed another roughly $84,576 for “additional inspection services required after damages incurred during Hurricane Ida.”
The total contract was listed at approximately $187,010.
