Gillespie, Dixon continue to spark Villanova

- Men’s basketball

• Collin Gillespie (Archbishop Wood) scored 10 points, adding five rebounds, four assists and a steal as Villanova handled Seton Hall 73-67 on Saturday. Eric Dixon (Abington) chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats with Chris Arcidiacon­o (Neshaminy) adding three points.

Dixon helped mash St. John’s in Tuesday’s 75-69 win with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting with seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Gillespie didn’t score but had 10 rebounds and two steals.

• Matt Paulus (La Salle) had nine points, five rebounds and an assist while Ryan Black (HatboroHor­sham) notched eight points and a rebound as Del Val topped Wilkes 69-66 on Saturday.

Wilkes’ Trent Fisher (Pennridge) had a huge game, scoring 20 points with 12 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and four steals.

• Bucknell’s Andrew Funk (Archbishop Wood) tallied 16 points, two rebounds, four assists, a block and steal in Saturday’s 6649 setback to Holy Cross.

Funk also had 16 points, hitting 4-of-8 from three, with three rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a 68-66 win over American on Wednesday.

• West Chester topped Bloomsburg 91-58 on Saturday behind 14 points, three rebounds, an assist and two steals from Robert Smith (Bishop McDevitt) and five points, an assist and steal from Jamil Manigo (McDevitt)

• Albany’s Matt Cerruti (Archbishop Wood) had seven points and a steal in Saturday’s 76-63 loss to Vermont.

In Wednesday’s 73-63 setback to Maine, Cerruti had 14 points, a rebound, assist and block while Aaron Reddish (Norristown) had six points.

Women’s basketball

• Gwynedd Mercy University’s Haley Crossley (William Tennent) was named AEC Player of the Week on Monday.

In Monday’s 81-60 win over Centenary, Crossley had a 2020 game, scoring 21 points with 20 rebounds, adding two assists and two steals while Elise Sylvester (PJP II) had five points, four rebounds and six assists with two steals and Cayla Sharkey (North Penn) had three points, four rebounds and two blocks.

On Wednesday, Crossley had her double-double streak snapped at five but still posted nine points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal in an 82-66 loss to Immaculata. Sylvester tuned up 19 points, six rebounds and five assists while Sharkey had eight rebounds, two

assists.

Finishing the week in a 92-87 loss to Marymount, Crossley tallied 20 points, 10 boards, four assists, three blocks and three steals. Sylvester had 17 points, three rebounds and eight assists and Kelly Owens (Perk Valley) put in 13 points.

Crossley, a junior, has 14 double-doubles on the season.

• In Saturday's 72-60 win over Caldwell, Chestnut Hill College's Cassie Sebold (Archbishop Wood) posted 18 points, hitting 4-of-9 from three, with four rebounds and two assists. Bri Hewlett (North Penn) put up a double-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals and Emily Chmiel (CB East) had a double-double off the bench, compiling 17 points on 8-of-13 field goals with 11 rebounds plus five assists, two blocks and a steal. Lauren Crim (Lansdale Catholic) scored 14 points with three rebounds and two assists.

Crim had 18 points and three boards in Wednesday's 79-72 setback to Dominican, while Hewlett had 14 points and 16 rebounds. Sebold chipped in 12 points, three rebounds and eight assists while Abbey Spratt (CB West) had four points and four rebounds and Chmiel added eight points and five rebounds.

• Drexel's Kate Connolly (Souderton) posted three points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal Sunday in a 61-46 win over Northeaste­rn.

Northeaste­rn's Katie May (Archbishop Wood) had 15 points, seven rebounds and an assist while Izzy Larsen (Wood) notched two boards and a helper.

•In Friday's 66-63 win over Northeaste­rn, Delaware's Lizzie Oleary (Abington) hit all three shot attempts for six points plus six rebounds.

Katie May (Wood) had five points and four boards for Northeaste­rn.

• Salisbury's Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had two points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals Saturday in a 75-40 win at Cabrini.

Syd Kesselman (PW) had seven points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block for Cabrini.

Fortescue posted 12 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal in Monday's 55-50 win over Brooklyn.

Kesselman posted four points, five rebounds and a pair of steals in Wednesday's 57-53 loss to Marymount.

• Casey Remolde (St. Basil Academy) posted nine points, four rebounds, an assist, block and steal Saturday as Kutztown bested Shepherd 68-59. Annie Whalen (Archbishop Wood) added six points and a rebound for the Bears.

On Wednesday, Remolde scored 14 points with eight rebounds, two assists, a block and two steals in a 63-60 win over Millersvil­le. Whalen added three points and a steal.

Remolde picked up her fifth PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honor on Monday.

• Holy Family's Lindsay Tretter (Archbishop Wood) had 15 points and three rebounds in a 71-62 loss to Georgian Court on Wednesday.

Men’s lacrosse

• Jacksonvil­le freshman Jackson Intrieri (Wissahicko­n) registered a crucial assist in Sunday's 14-12 upset over No. 2 Duke. The freshman, who started in midfield, tallied the helper on the eventual game-winner, also adding a ground ball and caused turnover.

Women’s lacrosse

• Duquense's Max Leszczynsk­i (Plymouth Whitemarsh) made her college debut in Friday's 9-8 overtime loss to Pitt. The freshman came off the bench, scoring the first goal of her career.

Goalie Rachel O'Toole (Methacton) made seven saves with six ground balls for the Dukes.

• Georgetown's Ali Diamond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a goal in the Hoyas' season-opening 20-8 win over American on Saturday.

•Becky Browndorf (Upper Dublin) started on defense, collecting a ground ball, caused turnover and draw control for Florida in Saturday's 22-7 seasonopen­ing win against Kennesaw State.

• Colorado fifth-year senior Sam McGee (Abington) had two goals and an assist in her debut with the Buffaloes in Friday's 14-13 win over Louisville

• Paige Gilbert (CB West) started in midfield and scored a goal with a draw control win while Sophia Chiodo-Ortiz (Wissahicko­n) had a goal off the bench for William & Mary in Saturday's 14-13 win over Villanova. It was the college debut for both freshmen.

Women’s volleyball

•Bloomsburg's Alyssa Cianciulll­i (PJP II) was one of the top defensive specialsts in the country this fall and she has statistics to make that case. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Cianciulli tallied a total of 749 digs in 107 sets to lead all of D-II with 7.00 digs per set to make her a statistica­l champion in that category. Cianciulli's numbers put her above Wheeling's Audrey Francis (6.63 digs per set).
