Executive running in 4th Congressional District
Christian Nascimento seeking Republican nomination
Christian Nascimento believes his skills and experiences make him a perfect fit for Congress.
As an executive at Comcast, he understands the need to strengthen our digital infrastructure.
As a former school board president, he knows the importance education has on the community.
And as a business leader, he recognizes the need to bring back manufacturing to America.
Those are the reasons why the Montgomery County Republican decided he could no longer sit on the sidelines as federal lawmakers discuss the future of these issues in Washington. He felt he needed to get involved, and that meant launching a campaign for a seat in the 4th Congressional District — which includes all of the central, eastern and northeastern parts of Berks County as well as a portion of Montgomery County.
“I have a set of skills and a set of experiences that gives me a unique knowledge about some of the issues that we are facing today as a nation,” the 47-year-old said. “I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I looked back years from now knowing that I had an opportunity to try to make things better and I didn’t do it.”
Nascimento is the only candidate who has formally announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination in the May 17 primary. The winner of the primary will face Madeleine Dean, a Montgomery County Democrat who is seeking her third term, in the general election.
“I’m really excited about running on the new congressional map because the district has so many new communities,” he said. “I think it will give both candidates a level playing field to state our cases to the voters.”
Nascimento said that if voters send him to Washington his legislative priorities will focus on his expertise.
He said he would fight
to ensure children are always able to attend school in person, parents have a choice and a say in their children’s education and all children have equal educational opportunities.
“I was a former school board president and I know that education is the key to everything,” he said. “We have to give kids the tools they will need for the 21st century. We’ve tying ourselves up in knots fighting about masks when we should be focused on making sure kids are in school all the time.”
Nascimento vowed to ensure the global supply chain is based in America by bringing manufacturing back to the United States.
“We have outsourced the entire global supply chain to China, and I think it puts us in a precarious situation from both an economic standpoint and a national security standpoint,” he said. “We see what’s happening right now with global supply chains choked and record inflation. Some of that is due to the impact of the COVID pandemic, but we have also put ourselves at risk by allowing other countries to dictate the terms of the global supply chain.”
And he promised to ensure that citizens have online privacy, foreign adversaries are held accountable and our digital infrastructure is better protected from potential cyberattacks.
“Because of the work I do, I understand the internet economy and some of the cybersecurity challenges that we face,” he said. “So much of our lives, our business, our commerce is online so there’s so many points of weakness and opportunity for hackers to take advantage of that that we really need to make hardening our cybersecurity infrastructure a national priority.”
