-

Kim Souder Drake, 68 of Virginia Beach, VA died quietly on Thursday morning, July 13th at the Sentara

Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Ray B. Souder of Boyertown and the late Doris V. Moran of Telford. She is survived by her husband, Barry

Drake of Virginia Beach, their daughter Leigh Drake and son-in-law David Gentele of Virginia Beach, a sister, Wendy Leshinskie and family of Telford, and a brother, Jonathan and family of Roy, UT.

Kim, born in Telford, graduated from Souderton High School in 1971 and then Mansfield State College in 1975 with a BS degree in Home Economics. She volunteered in the Peace Corps 1975-1976 teaching students home economics in Castries, St. Lucia. It was her dream to take Barry and Leigh to St. Lucia to see where she had served but unfortunately, she ran out of time.

Upon her return she was employed at John Wanamaker’s in Montgomeryville where she met her husband. Later employed by Pennview Savings as a teller then by Univest Bank and Trust where she ended her more than 30-year banking career in 2016 as a Trainer in the Human Resources Department.

Interests: Walking, watching Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles, and taking care of their cocker spaniels, and Grandpup, “Lucy.”

Kim was diagnosed with colon cancer on Labor Day 2016. She had no regrets because she felt she had gotten to do a lot during her time on this earth.

Kim’s outlook on life: God puts us here to fulfill a mission; when that mission is completed He takes us back into His waiting arms. Her favorite song in the last six years was Corey Hart’s, “Never Surrender”.

A lover of the sea and beach Kim, Barry, and Leigh often vacationed at the Jersey shore and various

Caribbean resorts. When Leigh graduated from Kutztown University and began teaching in the Virginia Beach School District it was Kim’s desire to move to Virginia Beach and join their daughter there.

As per Kim’s wishes, her body was cremated and there will be no memorial service.
