-

Dorothy “Dottie” Butler Sconyers took her final breath on August 16, 2022, on the 51st birthday of her only son, Mark. Dottie was 80 years young. She was born in Swedesboro, NJ, and grew up on a dairy farm in Mullica Hill, NJ, before settling in Newtown, PA, where she lived for nearly 50 years.

Dottie was a gifted athlete and went to the University of Mississippi on a scholarship for baton twirling. She graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and won many awards and trophies before settling into a career teaching at Bucks County Community College and advising for Thomas Edison State University. Dottie had a BA from the University of Mississippi and an MA from Temple University. Dottie married her college sweetheart, David, and had two children, Jennifer Sconyers Lawton and Mark David Sconyers. They spent time in Oxford, England, and traveled throughout Europe in their VW camper from 1975 to 1980, developing friendships with many people around the world. She taught her children to always be learning, embrace diversity and live life on your own terms. She inspired and advised many.

Dottie loved nothing more than to spend time with her friends and family and is survived by children Jennifer (Tim) Lawton and Mark (Virlen) Sconyers; grandsons Thomas III and Nicholas Lawton; grandchildren Lincoln and Madeline Sconyers; stepgrandchildren Emma and Cole Daley; former son-inlaw Thomas Lawton, Jr.; and her grade school friend Connie Wells. She is also survived by many aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.

A celebration of her life will be held on September 25, 2022, at La Stalla (18 Swamp Road) in Newtown, PA, from 3pm to 5pm. While Dottie loved flowers, she would ask that you simply do a good deed for someone, hold your loved ones close, and remember all the good times you shared with her.
