Mangan, Kutzler pace Jenkintown to victory

FIELD HOCKEY

Jenkintown 2, Bristol 1: Ailish Mangan and Delaney Kutzler provided the offense for the Drakes on Friday in BAL play.

Souderton 4, Archbishop Carroll 2: Freshman Ava Jones had a coming out party with a hat trick as the Indians picked up the nonconfere­nce win on Friday. Jones broke up a 1-1 tie with her second goal of the game in the third quarter. She added her third in the fourth quarter. Meredith DeMarzio finished with eight saves in net.

CB West 3, North Penn 2: The Knights had some opportunit­ies early, but in the end the Bucks survived in SOL Colonial action on Thursday. Calista Boos started the scoring for the Bucks in the second quarter, while Nina Mayto and Kendall Siegle added tallies for the Bucks. Catherine McGeehan and Caleigh Sperling scored for the Knights. West’s Kendra Pitts was stellar in net with 13 saves, while NP’s Kiera Holt had seven saves. “It was a fast-paced and intense game that had October feels to it,” said NP head coach Shannon McCracken. “Unfortunat­ely, North Penn couldn’t convert some early scoring opportunit­ies after forcing multiple corners in the first quarter.”

The Knights (1-1) are home Tuesday against Souderton, while the Bucks are at CB South on Tuesday.

New Hope 2: Springfiel­d Twp. 1: Norah Colin scored off a feed from Emma Yoder but the Spartans dropped the SOL Freedom contest on Thursday. Grace Bell and Kennedy Braddock combined for seven saves.

Wissahicko­n 9, Hatboro-Horsham 1: Caroline Kirkpatric­k had two goals and two assists, and Riley Ball scored three times as Wissahicko­n cruised to an SOL Liberty win over host Hatboro-Horsham. Kayla Mullin finished with two goals and an assist while Ella Hummel collected two assists for the Trojans (2-0, 1-0), who scored four times in both the first and second quarters.

Sophia Havrilla and Cait Connaghan also scored for Wiss, while Havilla, Kendall Crowley, Kayla Pak and Julia Wells each had an assist. Meredith Walsh made two saves for the Trojans while Ava Fell had one save.

Springfiel­d-Montco 9, William Tennent 0: Norah Colin, Emma Yoder and Hailey Lesniak helped Springfiel­d roll to an SOL Freedom victory in its season opener. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Souderton 3, Cheltenham 0: The Indians swept to the win on Friday by scores of 25-8, 25-5 and 25-4. For Souderton, Alexa Mazzeo led the way with eight aces and six digs. Also standing out for the Indians were McKenna Murawski (11 kills, 1 dig), Grace Boyd (7 assists, 2 aces, 1 dig) and Lauren Vince (5 aces, 2 kills, 1 dig). CB West 3, Merion Mercy 0: The Bucks swept to the victory on Friday by scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18. Alexis Barklage led the way with 14 kills, two aces and four digs. Also standing out for West were Presley Adams (7 aces, 1 kill, 4 digs), Rachel Hu (3 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs), Caroline Taylor (4 aces, 1 kill, 8 dis), Lily Rasnake (5 kills, 1 block) and Hollis Walton (4 kills, 1 block).

The Bucks won in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-19. Leading the way was Alexis Barklage with 11 kills, while Hollis Watson added eight kills and one ace. Also standing out for the Bucks were Mackenzie Lund (7 kills), Lily Rasnake (6 kills), Rachel Hu (8 digs, 3 aces, 3 kills), Caroline Taylor (7 digs, 4 aces, 1 kill), Elisa Kremser (4 kills, 14 assists, 3 digs) and Erin Ferello (2 aces, 14 assists, 5 digs). Hatboro-Horsham 3, CR North 0: The Hatters started off their season with a sweep on Thursday. The offense was run by freshman Paisley Lauzier with 28 assists. HH had a great night at the net with senior middle Jade Lauzier hitting .667 with 7 kills on 9 attempts, senior outside hitter Kayla Jones hitting .450 with 12 kills on 20 attempts, and juniors Cassidy Hudson and Emma O’Reilly adding 7 and 4 kills respective­ly. HH had 12 aces in the 3 sets led by senior libero Elizabeth Morgan with 4.

Mount St. Joseph 3, Central Bucks West 0: Mount St. Joseph won a close first set before taking the next two to sweep host Central Bucks West 25-23, 25-14, 25-16 in a nonleague match.

For West, Alexis Barklage had 13 kills while Alexa Lee finished with 10 digs. Erin Ferello had seven assists, and Caroline Taylor collected six aces and three digs.

Abington 3, Pennridge 1: Kenya Lucas had 19 kills as Abington claimed a fourset SOL nonconfere­nce victory. Mary Carter dished out 28 assists for the Galloping Ghosts while Liz Tanis made five blocks.

GIRLS TENNIS Wissahicko­n 7, Hatboro-Horsham 0: The Trojans had little trouble in picking up the SOL Liberty win on Thursday. In fact, the Trojans lost three games on the day. Saachi Mehta and Nicolette Agassi both won by double-bagels.

Methacton 7, Perk Valley 0: The Warriors didn’t drop a set in rolling to the PAC win on Thursday. The best match of the day was Dru O’Brien and Carlee Dellose at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Riya Mishra/Vienna Li.

Wissahicko­n 6, Upper Dublin 1: Wissahicko­n swept singles in its SOL Liberty victory with YiYi Huang defeating Upper Dublin’s Ciara Peyton at first singles 6-4, 6-3.

The Trojans’ Saachi Mehta won second singles over Eva Yang 6-2, 6-2, while Nicolette Agassi bested the Cardinals’ Kaelin Penna at third singles 6-1, 6-2.

Upper Dublin’s lone win came at fourth doubles as Raegan Penna and Megan Quan defeated Katherine Kooman and Lexi Frutkin 6-3, 6-3.

BOYS SOCCER

Upper Dublin 4, Methacton 2: Chris McMeel, Zachary Gallagher, Tommy Clayton and Dominick Plaku all delivered the offense as the Cardinals picked up the nonconfere­nce win on Friday. Zach Willen had a goal and an assist for the Warriors (2-1). Daniel Gorman also was dominant for the Cards.

GIRLS SOCCER

Souderton 1, CB West 0: Led by senior captains Maggie Fisher and Alexis Stefanowic­z, the the Indians defense stood tall during a SOL Colonial win on Friday. Outside backs Abby Kolb, Natalie Rankin and Avery Carroll also stood tall for Souderton. Freshman Ashlee Rose delivered the goal off a nice run from the center of the field.

“If I’m not mistaken this is our first win against a conference opponent in over a year,” Souderton head coach Ian Smith said. “Coming off two tough losses in the first week of the season, it shows the character of this team and we’re looking forward to building on it from here.” Upper Dublin 2, Methacton 1: Meg McKneel scored both goals for the Cards, the first in the 19th minute and second with 38 seconds left in the game on Friday. The Methacton goal came from defender Anna Rozinsky on a free kick with nine seconds left in the first half. Upper Dublin goalie Jordyn Levine made five saves, while Methacton keepers Mairi Smith and Riley McDonald combined for eight saves.

GMA 1, Conwell-Egan 0: The Monarchs moved to 2-0 on the season after a goal by Kat Pluck off a feed from Caroline Drakeley. Ellie Verill was solid in net with six saves.
