Mary S. Seelye, age 94, formerly of Ambler, PA and more recently of Cathedral Village, Philadelph­ia, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 17, 2022.

Born in 1928 in New York City she was the daughter of John S. Sickels and Marjorie G.R. Sickels, both from New York, NY.

Mary is survived by three children, Ann R. Seelye of Beaufort, SC, Joan K.S. Biddle (and husband Livingston L. Biddle IV) of Flourtown, PA and John S. Seelye of Sag Harbor, NY; one daughter-in-law Sarah C. Seelye (widow of Theodore B. Seelye) of Boston MA; six grandchild­ren; Eliza Lay Ryan (and husband Patrick Ryan) of Walpole, NH; siblings Hannah L. Biddle of Denver CO, Samuel S. Biddle of Philadelph­ia, PA.; siblings James R. Seelye of New York, NY, Julia S. Carson (and husband Timothy J. Carson) of New York, NY, Michael E. Seelye of Fairfield CT.; one great-grandchild Clara G. Ryan of Walpole, NH.

Mary survived her son Theodore, (deceased March 2021) and the father of her four children, James B. Seelye (married 1949, divorced 1971, deceased 1988)

Mary grew up in Greenwich Village, NY, was a graduate of The Little Red Schoolhous­e in Greenwich Village, Dana Hall School in Wellesley MA, and attended Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, NY.

Mary and Jim Seelye raised their four children in Penllyn, PA with many happy years spent at the Penllyn Club. Though they divorced in 1971 they continued separately yet cooperativ­ely to love, guide and adore their children.

Mary was a teacher of the Alexander Technique until her retirement and prior to Cathedral Village was very involved in the world of horses and a follower of the Wissahicko­n Hounds. She moved to Cathedral Village in 2004 joining many of her lifelong friends and made many new friends amongst the residents, Caregivers and staff.

Throughout her life, Mary remained a strong advocate for herself and others. She will also be remembered for her loving care and devotion to her children and grandchild­ren and the thrill of being a great-gran.
