Lower Moreland’s Kideckel wins District 1-2A title

District Championsh­ips: Souderton’s Amanda Yang advanced to the quarterfin­als of the District 1-3A Championsh­ips before falling to SpringFord’s Mia Matriccino 6-0, 6-1. Yang defeated Isabella Chen of Conestoga 6-4, 6-4in the first round. She then survived Kaitlyn Evans of Henderson in a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 thriller in the second round. Hannah Kideckel of Lower Moreland won the District 1-2A title, defeating Sofia Berestetsk­a of Merion Mercy 6-4, 6-4in the finals. Kideckel breezed through the semis, beating Sarah Stahl of Delco Christian 6-0, 6-0. Wissahicko­n 6, Harriton 1:

The Trojans swept the singles matches en route to the impressive nonconfere­nce win on Wednesday. In fact, the Trojans’ singles players did not drop a set. Saachi Mehta set the tone with a 6-2, 6-4win at No. 2singles.

Field hockey

Wissahicko­n 3, North Penn 1: Riley Ball scored with 3:36 before the half and Wissahicko­n went on to post the impressive SOL crossover win over North Penn (6-6). Ball’s goal off a feed from Caroline Fitzpatric­k put the Trojans up 2-1at the half. The only scoring in the second half was a Kendall Crowley goal off a feed from Ball. Wiss opened the scoring with Sophia Havrilla off an assist from Ella Hummel but North Penn’s Laura Albert tied the game up at 1off a feed from Catherine McGeehan. Kiera Holt and Kiley Moister combined for 10saves in net for North Penn, while Ava Feil made eight saves in net for Wiss. “Wissahicko­n has a strong squad and they were fast and dynamic today,” NP Head Coach Shannon McCracken said. “The Knights played tough against them but were unable to capitalize on offensive opportunit­ies. Hats off to their defense who came up with some big stops on a few breakaways for North Penn.” Abington 1, Springfiel­d Montco 0: Erica Devlin scored in overtime to lift the Ghosts to an SOL crossover win against the Spartans Thursday. Devlin’s game-winner came with 9:58left in overtime and was assisted by Maeve Link. “I was really proud of the way the whole team came together during overtime,” Abington coach Katie Small said. “It was our first one of the season and they really dug deep even though you could tell they were tired. Caitlin Murcur did a great job in the net and recorded her third shut out in five games.” Wissahicko­n 6, Lower Moreland 0: Kendall Crowley scored two of her three goals in the first quarter to lead the Trojans to an SOL crossover win Thursday.

Riley Ball added two goals while Caroline Kirkpatric­k had four assists and Ella Hummel had two helpers.

Girls soccer

PW 1, Upper Moreland 1: Abby Boegner scored in the 75th minutes off a Kate Yocum dish and the Colonials rallied for the tie in SOL crossover action on Friday. Willow Taylor scored off an assist from Maggie Brophy to give Upper Moreland the lead at thre 28:31mark of the first half.

“It is always a competitiv­e game when we play PW,” Upper Moreland Head Coach Lisa Benvenuto said. “Both teams show up with fire and both teams play hard and gritty. Today was no different. It was a really exciting game.” Hatboro-Horsham 4, Cheltenham 1: Emma Levin scored two goals as the Hatters picked up the SOL crossover win on Friday. Caitlyn Carpenter and Lily Harvey also scored for Hatboro-Horsham. Carolyn Shegogue and Sarah Roesing also scored for Hatboro-Horsham. Archbishop Wood 2, Penn Charter 2: Trailing 2-0, the Vikings rallied for the nonconfere­nce tie on Wednesday. Sage Bost and Sophia Topakas scored for the Vikings. Assists were credited to Daryn Savage and Ava DeGeorge. Hatboro-Horsham 2, Upper Moreland 0: Kathryn Randa scored a pair of goals as the Hatters picked up the SOL crossover win on Wednesday. Emma Levin and Alli Hewish were credited with the assists. Alyssa Tooley recorded the shutout in net.

PW 2, William Tennent 1: Trailing 1-0at the half, PW’s Angelina Balcer came out firing in the second half with a goal and an assist for the Colonials on Wednesday. Keira Whelan scored the gamewinner for PW. GMA 3, Nazareth Academy 1: The Monarchs fell down 1-0early, but rallied for the win on Tuesday. Lauren Drakeley led the attack with two goals, while Caroline Drakeley added a goal. Assists came from Kat Pluck and Riley Morris. Ellie Verrill made six saves in net.

Boys soccer Hatboro-Horsham 1, Upper Moreland 0:

Enrico Romano scored off a feed from Jake Freedman as the Hatters picked up the win on Wednesday. Noah Schlosser was credited with the clean sheet.

Girls volleyball

Abington 3, Hatboro-Horsham 1: Kenya Lucas had 11kills, including the 1,000th of her career, and eight aces in an SOL American win Thursday.

The Ghosts won in four sets 25-11, 25-12, 19-25, 25-22. Sasha Moody added 13kills and Mary Carter had 24assists. Abington 3, CB South 0:

The Ghosts swept to the SOL crossover win on Wednesday by scores of 25-14, 25-22and 25-9behind 10kills from Sasha Moody. Kenya Lucas added eight kills, Mary Carter had 23 assists and Liz Tanis came through with four blocks
