Students ‘Walk this Way’ for health and safety
HORSHAM >> Every ten minutes, Hallowell Elementary students “walked this way” to one of twelve educational stations for Walk this Way Day on September 30. Community members at each station taught students safety practices, fitness routines and healthy lifestyle tips.
“Walk this Way Day is a fantastic way for students to learn while having fun outdoors and interacting with the community,” said Steve Glaize, principal of Hallowell Elementary School.
Students in all grade levels participated and rotated through the following stations:• Fitness and Activity: Community members from local fitness clubs and organizations, including Horsham
Athletic Club, coached kids through aerobic exercises and drill sergeant activities.• Montgomery County Health Department officials taught students best practices for pedestrian and bike safety.• Hydration and Nutrition: Students took breaks to drink water and eat apple slices.• Members of the United States Armed Forces showed students
a Hummer and let them try on safety gear.• Horsham Township workers informed students about their work to keep the streets, sidewalks and trails in good condition to keep the community active.• Horsham Police brought a police vehicle and bicycle, and talked to students about safety.
