Montgomery County awards $1M in transportation grants
Five boroughs, townships recipients of funds for projects
NORRISTOWN >> More than $1 million was awarded Thursday to fund five projects through this year’s Montgomery County Transportation Program.
“Because we have a seamless transportation network that crosses every municipal boundary, it’s critically important that governments work together to keep our roads, bridges, and trails in good condition,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairwoman Val Arkoosh in a statement Thursday.
In its fifth year, the initiative uses funds collected through the county’s $5 vehicle registration revenue fee to assist lo
cal municipalities.
Eligible projects include road construction and repair, traffic sign and signal installation, crosswalk markings, curb ramps, pedestrian trails within public right-of-way, and street lighting.
With $1,034,320 available in total funds, the 2022 recipients included Lower Providence, Montgomery and Upper Merion townships, as well
as Pottstown and Royersford boroughs.
The following projects were spotlighted during Thursday’s Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting:
• Lower Providence Township: $72,844 for signal improvements at Germantown Pike and Evansburg Road. Lower Providence will fund the installation of advanced detection to provide left-turn arrow phase and pedestrian countdown to existing signals at the intersection of Germantown
Pike and Evansburg Road.
• Montgomery Township: $271,072 for rapid flashing beacons at Spring Valley and Windlestrae parks. Montgomery Township will fund the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, signage, and pavement markings on Upper State Road at Spring Valley Drive and Kenas Road at Davis Drive.
