Benson, Valley Central take top titles in Section 9

Valley Central claimed the Section 9 girls gymnastics team championsh­ip on Monday night, qualifying six competitor­s for the state meet.

Reilly Benson topped the all-around competitio­n with 34.325 points, adding titles in vaulting (8.225) and uneven bars (8.35). Teammate Eleanor O'Neil won the balance beam (9.0) and tied Benson for the vaulting crown. Fellow Vikings qualifying for states include Bailey Badendyck, Kaylee Benson, Leah Rieber and Ella Freeman.

Marlee McCullough of Wallkill won the floor exercise (9.525).

The rest of the 10-member sectional team headed for states are Maggie Cullen of Kingston, Claire Coiteux of New Paltz, Marlee McCullough of Wallkill and Julia Meyer of F.D. Roosevelt.
